Why does 10ml nic salt e-liquid come in 10ml bottles?

UK rules limit a nicotine-containing refill container sold to consumers to 10ml. The same rules cap nicotine-containing e-liquid at a maximum strength of 20mg/ml and e-cigarette tanks at a maximum capacity of 2ml.

These requirements are often described as TPD limits. In the UK they sit within the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016, and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency publishes guidance on how they apply. That guidance also requires nicotine products or their packaging to be child-resistant and tamper-evident.

A 10ml bottle is therefore the permitted consumer refill-container format for nicotine e-liquid. Bottle size does not establish compatibility on its own; check that the device is refillable and specifies 50:50 e-liquid.

What does 50:50 PG/VG mean?

A 50:50 PG/VG e-liquid contains equal proportions of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine. PG and VG act as carriers for the other ingredients in the e-liquid, and their relative proportions affect the liquid's viscosity.

Compared with a high-VG formulation, a 50:50 liquid has a lower viscosity. This format is commonly paired with lower-power mouth-to-lung devices and higher-resistance coils. Which devices do not take bottled e-liquid?

Prefilled pod devices use sealed cartridges instead of bottled e-liquid. Dinner Lady Velto is a prefilled pod system, so it accepts Dinner Lady Velto replacement pods only and does not accept Bar Salts bottles.

Sealed prefilled pods cannot be opened, topped up or refilled. Attempting to open or puncture one may damage the pod and cause leakage. A shared flavour name does not make the products interchangeable: Blue Rancher Bar Salts and Blue Rancher Velto pods are separate formats for different hardware.
